Hollywood Studios, Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World Resort in the Orlando FL area is an amazing vacation destination that people from around the world flock to because there is so much to see and do there! The Disney Hollywood Studios is one of the 4 theme parks at Disney, and it’s the 3rd park opened at the resort. It’s themed after the glitz and glamour of the 1930’s and ‘40’s for the Hollywood motion picture industry, with many of its rides and attractions based on that…
The Disney Hollywood Studios used to be called the Disney MGM Studios, but they have changed the name over the years due to ownership and contract modifications. This is really a fun park, but it’s geared more for the adult or teenager and maybe not a small child. There are live action shows such as the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, which is one of my favorites in the park, and also theater shows with live audience participation that are being filmed for possible inclusion in television or Hollywood films… Game shows, drive in theatres, stunt shows, movie sets, there is a lot to see here!
The company actually does live filming in the back lots of the park and studios, and you may just be lucky enough to see some of the sets or areas where they are filming on the Back Stage Tour… Catastrophe Canyon is an amazing experience, and they showcase it on the tour. There is an incredible roller coaster called the Rock and Roller Coaster by Aerosmith, with some awesome music as you twist and turn through the attraction. It’s very popular at the Disney Hollywood Studios, and that’s a good one to get to early as the lines can be longer later in the day…
Try out the Muppet Vision 3D show, or the Star Wars 3D motion show where you are strapped into a “rocket ship” for travel through the moons of Endor and other great thrills from the movie series… There is also a fantastic car crash stunt show which you will love! One attraction that is relatively new is the American Idol Experience, where people can act out their dreams by singing on stage in front of other guests who are grading them, or maybe all you want to do is be in the audience grading others! It’s a very popular show and runs throughout the day…
There is a scary “Tower of Terror” thrill ride at the Disney Hollywood Studios and is housed in the once glamorous Hollywood Tower Hotel… This is one of the more unique thrill rides in any of the Disney theme parks, because it’s a vertical ride that just goes up and down… As the elevator takes you up to the top floors of the hotel, the elevator suddenly gives way and takes you on a doomed ride up and down the elevator shaft until finally the cable breaks loose and sends you to your demise… That’s the story anyway, and you just never know!
You can also explore many other great shows at the Disney Hollywood Studios Park such as the Voyage of the Little Mermaid and the Great Movie Ride… You can really learn a lot about movie making and what goes on behind the scenes in Hollywood, and also learn much about Walt Disney and his amazing journey through the years… He accomplished much when he was alive, and his legacy lives on through his incredible parks!
When you come to Walt Disney World, consider a stay at one of the awesome resorts or hotels on the property, as there are many choices and options to choose from. They have hotels for every budget and every theme it seems, including the Grand Floridian Resort, Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Resort, Wilderness Lodge, and the Swan and Dolphin Hotels… You can camp at Fort Wilderness also, if that’s your style… Also try the other Disney theme parks such as the Magic Kingdom, Disney Epcot, Disney Animal Kingdom, or one of the water parks like Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach! They are all incredible, including the Disney Hollywood Studios… Have fun!
